About us
Hey, I’m Rikkilee — the mum behind Golden Acre
I’m a mum of four, small business owner, and a big believer that some of the best childhood memories are made outside.
My partner Tom and I are raising our family on a cattle and sheep farm in the hills of Gippsland, Victoria. Our days are often messy, loud and a little chaotic — there’s mud, farm life, washing that never seems to end, and kids who somehow manage to bring half the outdoors back inside with them.
But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
And I’ll be the first to admit — we weren’t always a screen-free family.
Like so many parents, screens were easy entertainment. They filled the quiet moments, helped when I needed to get something done and, some days, simply made life easier.
Over time, though, we started making a conscious change.
Instead of just taking screens away, we focused on giving our kids something else to do.
We opened the back door.
We encouraged them to get outside, explore, make mud pies, collect sticks, climb, create, imagine and — most importantly — learn how to be bored enough to find their own fun.
Slowly, outdoor play became our alternative to screen time.
And that journey has shaped so much of what Golden Acre is today.
Why Golden Acre?
Golden Acre started in 2022 from my love of children’s clothing and a desire to create practical pieces that actually worked for everyday kids and everyday families.
But over the years, it has grown into something that means so much more to me.
Today, everything we create comes back to one simple belief:
The best childhoods happen outside.
I want our clothes to be the things your kids actually LIVE in.
The overalls that come home covered in mud.
The tee with grass stains down the front.
The raincoat that gets thrown on because there’s a puddle outside that absolutely needs jumping in.
And the adventure pieces that make your child forget they ever asked for a screen in the first place.
Because I know what real life with kids looks like.
I’m not interested in creating clothes that need to be kept perfect. I want to create practical, comfortable pieces that give parents the freedom to say:
“Go outside. Get dirty. We can wash it.”
Golden Acre is for the mums trying to create a little more of the childhood we remember — muddy feet, fresh air, big imaginations and kids who aren’t afraid to get dirty.
We’re not perfect at it in our house either.
We’re simply choosing, one day at a time, to make more room for outdoor play, imagination and a childhood that feels a little more free.
And if Golden Acre can help another family do the same, then this little business is doing exactly what I hoped it would.
Here’s to raising free-range kids.
